Olivia's Story

In November 2008 my husband and I were given the scare of our lives. Just home with a two month old baby, our 16 month old daughter, Olivia, began realizing that her new baby brother was here for keeps and retreated a bit, or so I thought. Two months later, during Olivia’s 18 month check up, we learned her iron levels were severely low and the next day she was sent to UNC Children’s Hospital’s Pediatric Oncology Department where she received an emergency blood transfusion. For several months we feared the worst, but continued to pray for the best. Finally after nearly a year of visits to UNC Children’s Hospital, Olivia was released from care this past February.

While we received a HUGE blessing, the people we met and lives we encountered on our trips to UNC will forever shape our own lives…and how thankful we are for each and every day! So many kind gestures were shown to us during our time at UNC and always, in every corner, there was information about the Me Fine Foundation. The Me Fine Foundation provides parents who are facing the most frightening challenge of life a safe place to turn. Its like turning to your mom, grandmother or favorite aunt’s arms where you know you’ll always be met with unconditional care and support and always without question. When your child is ill, Me Fine knows that you’re already facing one of life’s most unfair experiences. For that unwaivering support, my family will forever be greatful.

"I can't thank you enough. I don't know what to say. You have saved my family once again. I give God the Glory for people like you all."
